The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is urging workers to submit their applications for occupational and site supervisor licences ahead of the January 1, 2022 deadline – and to take advantage of the alternative pathway arrangements that finish this week, on September 30.

According to the QBCC, assessment officers have seen an increase in applications over recent weeks, and all efforts are being made to approve eligible applicants in time for the January 1 deadline.

For those applying for air conditioning and refrigeration licences, transitional arrangements are in place until September 30. These arrangements allow applicants who may not have the required qualifications to use their experience instead. More information on the experience requirements can be found at the QBCC website.

The QBCC notes that, like all applications, those submitted through the alternative pathway will undergo an extensive assessment. In circumstances where experience cannot be verified, applicants may be required to provide further information. Persons that are not successful in obtaining a licence have the right to have their application reviewed internally by the QBCC or externally by QCAT.

Those who apply and have their licence granted before the January 1 deadline will also benefit from a greater period of time before their first renewal date. Occupational licences granted now will commence on January 1, 2022 rather than the date the licence is issued, meaning the first renewal date for these licences will be 1 January 2023.
