Nominations open for IIR scientific prizes

ICR 2027 will be held in Seoul, Republic of Korea on August 21–27, 2027, with the theme “Smart Refrigeration Systems for Low Carbon and Green Energy”.

The prestigious academic and scientific prizes presented at Congress recognise outstanding contributions and innovative research in the field of refrigeration.

The awards include:

• IIR Gustav Lorentzen Medal 
• IIR Science and Technology Medal 
• IIR Women in Refrigeration Award 
• IIR Medal of Merit 
• IIR Young Researchers’ Awards:
  • Clarence Birdseye Award (Food Science and Engineering) 
  • Sadi Carnot Award (Thermodynamics) 
  • Alexis Carrel Award (Cryobiology and Cryomedicine) 
  • Willis H. Carrier Award (Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps) 
  • James Harrison Award (Refrigerated Storage and Transport) 
  • James Joule Award (Systems and Equipment for Refrigeration) 
  • Peter Kapitza Award (Cryophysics) 
  • Carl von Linde Award (Cryogenic Engineering). 

Nominations for the awards will close on November 15, 2026. More information is available here.

The organisation is also still calling for abstracts for ICR 2027 until October 1, 2026.

Organisers are inviting abstract submissions that present case studies, innovations, research, and expert insights on the following themes:

• Air conditioning
• Heat pumps
• Refrigeration
• Cryogenics
• Refrigerants
• Building energy
• Thermodynamics and heat transfer
• Thermal management.

The congress is held every four years and features keynote speeches from experts, technical tours, networking opportunities, technical workshops, and panel discussions covering a wide range of topics.
