Fine-tuning thermal comfort

Designed to give users greater control over comfort across ducted air conditioning systems in residential and light commercial environments, the system provides independent control of up to ten zones. Zoneconnex is compatible with a broad range of GENERAL ducted indoor units, supporting both new installations and system upgrades.

The zoning technology allows users to manage airflows in five per cent increments across different areas of a home or building. The system supports more efficient operation by letting users condition only the spaces they need, while maintaining consistent temperatures throughout the home or building.

General Manager, Product and Strategy at GENERAL Australia and New Zealand, Kyle Rafter, says the new technology reflects a shift towards more adaptable and user-driven climate control.

“It also helps address growing demand for practical zoning solutions in the market, where customers are looking for greater comfort and control at a more accessible price point,” he says.

“Zoneconnex makes it easy to manage different areas independently, so users can create a more comfortable environment while also using energy more efficiently.”

The system is operated via a modern wall-mounted controller, with easily accessible key functions such as temperature, fan speed, and operating modes. It also has built-in scheduling that is accessible through a mobile app available on iOS and Android devices.

The Zoneconnex controller connects directly to the indoor unit printed circuit board (PCB) via a standard universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) port, using the same connection method as existing NXT adaptors. This reduces the need for additional components and simplifies the installation process.

The setup mode lets installers complete commissioning using the controller’s own Wi-Fi signal, removing the need to connect to a local network during installation and helping streamline on-site setup.

Rafter says Zoneconnex delivers benefits for installers as well as end users.

“The familiar connection method and simplified setup process help reduce installation time, while the system’s flexibility makes it suitable for a wide range of applications,” he says.
