Kirby backs next-gen tradies

The Kirby Apprentice Fund has graduated a new cohort of low-GWP refrigerant skills talent.

The Kirby Apprentice Fund 2026 CO2 Training Scholarship Program has enabled a group of HVAC&R apprentices from across the industry to upskill in the use of CO2 refrigerants. This was the seventh round of the initiative which first launched in 2019.

Over the seven years of its operation, it has resulted in more than 100 apprentices undertaking nationally recognised training in CO2 Safety and CO2 System Repair and Service (UEERA0006 and UEERA0066). The 2026 course was delivered by SCM REF Australia at Beijer Ref Academy, and completion certified by Superior Training Centre.

The program was also supported by Appion Tools, Copeland, Danfoss and Sauermann Australasia, who provided training in specific products and controls.

Employers who have enabled their staff to attend include Australian Refrigeration Services, Faircloth & Reynolds, Frigtech Services WA, Mackie Electric & Refrigeration, Nexus Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, Peak Group Services, RS Air and Refrigeration, Southern Air Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Specialised Refrigeration Services, Tritech Refrigeration, TVHi, Van Eerde Airconditioning and Refrigeration, and Woolworths Supermarkets.

Kirby HVAC&R says the fund was created to provide apprentices with tool support, training, and development opportunities to help them succeed. It is also an investment in the next generation of HVAC&R professionals and helps close the gap on CO2 technology skills.

HVAC&R apprentices can register at kirbyhvacr.com.au to find out more about future opportunities offered by the Fund.
