New CEO for MAC Trade Services

South Australia-based energy management and building services business, MAC Trade Services (MAC) has appointed Matt Csortan as CEO.

Csortan has held the role of Chief Operating Officer at MAC for the past three years, and prior to joining the company had more than two decades of senior executive experience including leadership roles with ZEN Energy and Codan Limited.

He replaces founding CEO, Merrily Hunter, who is stepping into the new role of Head of Growth at MAC.

She will lead the company’s strategic growth agenda, with a focus including new market development, strategic partnerships, product innovation, digital platforms and emerging opportunities across Australia’s rapidly evolving energy sector.

“This is a natural and planned progression for our business,” she says.

“Over the past three years, Matt and I have built an exceptional leadership partnership. As we’ve grown, it has become increasingly clear that the greatest opportunity for MAC is to allow each of us to focus on where we create the most value.”

Founded by Hunter in 2014 as a specialist energy efficiency provider, MAC has grown into a national energy services business that helps both households and businesses reduce energy costs and retrofit for electrification.

The company operates across South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT, supported by a team of 55 energy specialists and a national network of more than 1,200 accredited installers.  This includes supporting HVAC tradies across New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the ACT who aim to access energy efficiency rebate schemes in all four jurisdictions.

In addition, MAC has partnered with governments, energy retailers and businesses to deliver energy efficiency upgrades, heat pump hot water systems, heating and cooling, solar and battery solutions, EV charging infrastructure and Virtual Power Plant programs at scale.

In 2025, the company says it surpassed 10 million gigajoules of verified energy savings, with an estimated carbon emissions benefit equivalent to the planting of 32 million trees.

Csortan says the transition reflected the maturity of the business and its ambitions for the future.

“MAC has built an outstanding reputation for delivering quality, integrity and innovation,” Csortan says.

“I’m excited to lead the next phase of the company’s growth while continuing to build on the strong culture, customer relationships and industry partnerships that have made the business what it is today.”
