Making refrigerant recovery rewarding

Reclaim Rewards is a new program launched by A-Gas Australia in partnership with wholesalers Actrol and Airefrig that aims to encourage and recognise effective refrigerant recovery across the Australian HVAC&R sector.

The goal of the program is to increase the volumes of refrigerants recovered and further incentivise a sustainable approach to lifecycle refrigerant management. Actrol and Airefrig act as the receivers of refrigerants at end of use and then pass them on to A-Gas which processes them for either reuse or responsible destruction through the RRA scheme at its sites in either Melton or Laverton North.

“Reclaim rates need to increase,” Allan Chatfield, A-Gas Commercial Manager tells AIRAH.

“The scheme has been designed to help change behaviour in the market and incentivise contractors to return refrigerants.”

By keeping refrigerants in circulation, the program helps reduce emissions, support continuity of supply, and reduces reliance on newly manufactured product.

“Reclaim Rewards recognises businesses already leading the way in refrigerant recovery and supports greater participation across the industry.”

HVAC&R businesses can register for the Reclaim Rewards program and continue returning recovered refrigerant through participating Actrol and Airefrig branches as part of their standard operating procedures. Businesses are recognised and rewarded for increasing returned refrigerant volumes, including eligibility to win a trip to Japan.
