New training units have been drafted for the electrotechnology training package and are open for comment.
The two new units cover variable refrigerant flow (VRF) AC systems, and emergency lighting and alarm systems/fire and smoke control systems. Both will be included as an elective in Certificate III in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration.
The new unit of competency on VRF air conditioning has been developed to address the required generic skills and knowledge for technicians to install, commission, service and maintain these systems.
It includes sourcing relevant data and schematics; installing components, pipe work, accessories and controls; commissioning the system to ensure it operates at the specified design conditions; locating and rectifying faults; and carrying out maintenance tasks.
The other new unit of competency has been developed to address the needs of air conditioning technicians to inspect, test and repair fire and smoke control features of mechanical services systems.
This unit will be included as an elective in Certificate III in Air-conditioning and Refrigeration.
The existing unit UEEEL0048 install and maintain emergency lighting systems has been renamed and updated to cover the needs of electricians to “inspect, test and maintain” emergency lighting systems.
The technical advisory committees of the electrotechnology industry reference committee are seeking feedback on the draft training package materials.
Feedback will be accepted until close of business Monday, March 8.
