Call for abstracts: Adaptation 2027 Conference

Hosted by the International Institute of Refrigeration, the second IIR International Conference of the Role of Refrigeration in Adapting to Rising Ambient Temperatures (Adaptation 2027) will be held from March 8–10 in Birmingham, UK.

The international event aims to bring together experts from the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump (RACHP) sector and academics to address the risks posed by the changing climate and the demands on RACHP technology from industries, communities and households.

The Adaptation 2027 conference recognises that rising global temperatures are contributing to increasingly complex challenges for the sector, including the role of RACHP in mitigation and adaptation. It will encourage the exchange of ideas and innovation between experts working to develop sustainable and resilient solutions.

Discussions and presentations will address three themes:

Theme 1: Managing Risk focuses on system resilience, addressing issues such as performance in extreme temperatures, overheating, and the reliability of cold chains and critical infrastructure.

Theme 2: Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considers how the sector responds responsibly, covering carbon reduction, low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerants, whole life cycle impacts, and the wider societal need for sustainable cooling.

Theme 3: The Future Landscape of RACHP looks ahead to emerging technologies and system-level solutions; including digitalisation, networked energy systems, and new approaches to design, skills, and standards.

The call for abstracts is now open. All proposed presentation papers should report on original research or on technical developments and their applications, contain quality scientific or technical information and must not have been published previously elsewhere. Abstract submissions close August 10, 2026.
