NCC 2022 to be delayed

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has confirmed that the adoption of the next version of the National Construction Code – NCC 2022 – has been pushed back by four months.

“Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has presented a variety of significant challenges for the building industry, regulators and consumers, Building Ministers have agreed to a four-month delay to the adoption of NCC 2022,” says the ABCB.

NCC 2022 is now expected to be adopted by states and territories from September 1, 2022.

In line with this, key dates in the amendment cycle process for NCC 2022 will also be changed to allow stakeholders time to participate. These adjusted dates include:

• May–July 2021: NCC 2022 Public Comment Draft released for public consultation
• May 2022: NCC 2022 Preview published at ncc.abcb.gov.au

The ABCB has also confirmed that it will be delivering its annual NCC Seminars in 2021. The seminars are expected to be held in each capital city during May next year.
