Intelligent theme for World Refrigeration Day 2026
World Refrigeration Day is an opportunity to celebrate the skills, inventiveness and achievements of HVAC&R – and in 2026, the real power behind the profession is in the spotlight.

While Artificial Intelligence might be grabbing plenty of headlines, for World Refrigeration Day on June 26, 2026, the intent is to celebrate the genius and skill that comes with two hands and a heart – human smarts.
“Cool Intelligence” has been chosen as the theme, which the WRD Secretariat describe as, “how we design, install, operate, and maintain cooling and sustainable heating systems intelligently”.
It is present in the engineers and consultants that design systems, the technicians doing installations, maintenance people, repair experts and those who train the emerging cohort of future fridgies.
The event also aims to celebrate innovation, social benefit and how the sector is adapting and preparing for emerging climate concerns, improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impacts.
Cool Intelligence is also “designed to spark conversation, encourage reflection, and highlight the people and decisions behind the systems that support everyday life,” the WRD Secretariat says.
“As the world focuses on artificial intelligence, World Refrigeration Day 2026 invites the global community to recognise the intelligence already embedded in cooling and sustainable heating – and the people who make it work.”
In Australia, Woolworths will again be marking World Refrigeration Day by running tours of state-of-the-art natural refrigerants plant rooms around the country. Tours will take place in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and this year also in Darwin. The events will give attendees the opportunity to see the latest HVAC&R technology in action, meet industry professionals and experience a day in the life of a refrigeration technician. HVAC&R News will share more details as they become available.
