Air sealing energy efficiency solutions provider Aeroseal has been named by energy and chemicals company Aramco as the energy efficiency partner for building decarbonisation in the firm’s Saudi Arabian facilities. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to that effect.

Joint efforts will include nationwide testing of building ductwork and envelopes, along with collaborative research and development to fuel the large-scale deployment of Aeroseal’s air-sealing technology for HVAC ductwork and building envelopes.

“This technology addresses a critical concern for building energy efficiency and decarbonisation, as leaky systems comprise as much as 40 per cent of building energy waste,” Aeroseal says.

Following a successful trial of Aeroseal’s technology in Saudi Arabia, the parties agreed to explore opportunities to accelerate its deployment in the company’s building fleet and elsewhere; pursue joint testing of building ductwork and envelopes nationwide to uncover the most prominent opportunities; commercialise the technology in novel applications such as gas pipelines; and localise the firm’s supply chain in Saudi Arabia.

The signing ceremony was attended by US Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jennifer Granholm and HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman al Saud, Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Aeroseal says the pact marks a significant step in both countries’ pursuit of net zero GHG emissions.

“We are excited to expand collaboration with Aramco and continue to make significant progress in reducing energy waste in buildings and combatting the effects of climate change,” says Aeroseal CEO and co-founder Amit Gupta.

“We must recognise the role buildings play in this risk. By taking the foundational step of sealing leaking building systems, entire communities can benefit from not only a more sustainable environment, but also improved air quality and comfort.”
