Holyoake has released a fire-smoke damper development called the HFS Damper. The opposed-blade damper has been tested independently in Australia and is the first of its kind in Holyoake’s line of fire protection products.

The damper can be used as a fire, smoke, fire-smoke, and air (smoke exhaust) damper and is suitable for a variety of installations; the damper can also be set for the balancing of airflows.

Holyoake says the damper uses innovative technology to provide a superior and safe, consistent performance.

The damper is certified for a wide range of wall and floor systems and will be available in a single section ranging from 200mm wide by 200mm high up to 1,200mm by 1,200mm (and many sizes in between). Multi-section dampers for larger penetrations will also be manufactured.

The HFS Damper is compliant with Australian Standards (AS) 1682.1 and has been tested to AS 1530.4:2014 Section 11 for fire damper and air transfer grille assemblies in ducts, as well as to AS 1530.7-2007 for smoke control assemblies.

Holyoake says: “The required performance criteria for this opposed-blade operable damper have been a key factor in its development, as the damper needed to perform across a wide range of temperatures while experiencing a differential pressure of 300Pa. The challenge was to keep within the allowable leakage throughout the entire four-hour test period.”

HFS dampers comply with the fire, smoke, fire and smoke, and air control damper requirements of the National Construction Code.

“We have worked closely with our partnered RTA to provide the complete compliance evidence required by the NCC 2022 Volume 1 clause S1C2 b) and c) as appropriate for fire-resistance levels,” Holyoake says.
