Innovation for HVAC decarbonisation
Temperzone has released the Econex HWP (hideaway water-cooled packaged) HVAC range, which the company claims offers a 71–80% reduction in overall Global Warming Potential (GWP) per kilowatt of cooling or heating when compared to previous systems.

The Econex HWP is designed for commercial water loop and cooling tower applications, and uses R32 refrigerant in managed, low-refrigerant volumes. This reduces the CO2e of refrigerant by up to 80% while being installable in the same applications as legacy water-sourced packaged units.
The unit has intelligent control built in, with inverter-driven compressors that match capacity to demand and command only the water flow required to condition the space. It also features a refrigerant-cooled inverter drive that keeps electronics within optimal temperature bands across varying temperature conditions.
“We have achieved outstanding unit efficiencies across the new Econex HWP range, with Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) figures increased by up to 40% and Coefficient of Performance (COP) figures up to 24% when comparing to our own HWP ECO range,” says Temperzone.

Temperzone believes the units unlock a practical pathway to decarbonisation without disrupting existing building topologies.
Each packaged unit can serve one or two dedicated zones and can be powered directly from the tenancy switchboard. The reverse cycle and electric heat variant can intelligently prioritise high efficiency heat pump operation and engage electric back up only when loop temperatures fall too low.
The initial release of Econex HWP units includes:
- HWP 25Y – 2.4 kW
- HWP 37Y – 3.2 kW
- HWP 50Y – 5.0 kW
- HWP 70Y – 7.0 kW.
