UPS expands cold chain capacity

A new shipping hub in the Phillipines with multiple refrigerator and shipping units will enable faster postage and handling times for temperature-sensitive shipments.

Clarke Facility

Global logistics company UPS has opened an $80mil shipping hub at Clark Airport that is 15 times larger than its predecessor at 30,000 square metres.

The sustainability-certified facility houses three refrigeration and freezer units, ranging from -20 to 25°C. It also has dedicated re-icing capability and RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) technology to provide priority handling and enhanced visibility for critical healthcare shipments.

It also features an automated sorting system that uses smart technology to process up to 9,000 small packages per hour.

President of UPS Asia Pacific, Bernard Jiang, says Asia Pacific has been the heartbeat of global trade for years.

“When we first announced plans to build our new Clark hub in 2024, it was the beginning of a sustained, multi-year investment strategy to strengthen our Asia Pacific network and give our customers faster connections to support growing trade flows across the region,” he says.

UPS operates 170 flight segments into and out of Clark every week, and the company says the new facility will boost services across more than 1,100 global trade lanes to Asia Pacific, India, Europe and the United States.
