Standards Australia has launched a new low-cost mobile app for individual users, including tradespeople, technicians, designers, and engineers. Standards Australia Engagement Manager Henrietta Tan walks us through the app’s features.
The Standards Australia Store mobile app is part of Standards Australia’s program to improve access for users on job sites and in the field. It overcomes the limitations of protected PDF formats and aims to promote convenience for users. It also offers significant cost savings to tradespeople. Single users can get a low-cost annual subscription to curated sets of commonly used standards, which they can then access through the mobile app.
The intuitive design of the app allows users to bookmark frequently used documents and receive updates when new versions are released, ensuring that they are always working with the most current information. This feature can help provide peace of mind in industries where referencing outdated standards can lead to compliance issues and safety hazards.
The app can also be used offline via cached access for up to 30 days from the time the content is accessed online.

Amongst the curated sets available through the Standards Australia Store are the refrigeration and air conditioning technician’s set and the ductwork and air handling systems set.
The refrigeration and air conditioning technician’s set provides guidance for the most common types of work undertaken in the HVAC&R industry, including specifying, designing, and installing HVAC&R equipment, as well as the servicing, repair, and end-of-life decommissioning of this equipment. All standards included in this set are referenced in Section 135 of the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Regulations 1995 (Cth), which licensed refrigeration technicians are required to comply with as part of their licence. Technicians can access this set for only $21.84/year including GST with mobile-only access.
The ductwork and air handling systems set encompasses standards focused on compliance needs for installing ductwork and air handling systems. Designed to assist air conditioning and mechanical services plumbers, HVAC engineers, and duct fixing plumbers, this set offers nine standards that are particularly helpful for achieving compliance. The set can be accessed for just $39.90/year including GST with mobile-only access.
Simple and focused
Access to both these sets simplifies the process of finding the right standard quickly and affordably, promoting compliance, enhancing industry knowledge, improving efficiency, and ensuring consistency across projects.
“We have worked closely with key industry bodies, including the Australian Refrigeration Council, to ensure our curated sets of standards are not only comprehensive, but also highly relevant to the needs of professionals in the field,” says Standards Australia Chief Operating Officer Kareen Riley-Takos.
“With the launch of our new mobile app, we are pleased to offer even greater and more affordable access to these essential resources. This tool empowers technicians and tradespeople to have immediate access to the standards they need, whenever and wherever required, enhancing both compliance and efficiency in their daily operations.”
The app is available for both iOS and Android operating systems.
