Improving HVAC in operating theatres
The University of Melbourne and Professor Forbes McGain, an anaesthetist and intensive care physician at Western Health in Melbourne, are running a survey to help improve the efficiency of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in operating theatres.

The Institute of Healthcare Engineering, Australia (IHEA) is also assisting with promoting the survey. According to them, clinical environments create high energy demands on HVAC systems – leading to considerable financial costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
The research will look into how to safely scale back HVAC systems in unused operating theatres after hours. Surveying hospital engineers will help the researchers better understand current national HVAC practices and perspectives.
The survey takes less than 10 minutes and is available to access here, or click here for more information.
