February–March issue of HVAC&R News out now
2026 is in full swing, with the first issue of the year now printed and available at wholesalers, TAFEs and RTOs around Australia.

Our cover feature in this issue of HVAC&R News explores the work of instrumentation and control technicians – known as “instros” – who play a vital role in complex HVAC&R systems. Glen McMurtrie from TAFE Queensland talks about recruiting and training these highly specialised technicians, while the team from Reliable Controls shares their experience of the industry’s development over the past 40 years and forecasts what they expect from the future.
Our second feature goes behind the scenes to check out a new refrigeration system at Arnott’s Biscuits, which uses ammonia as a natural refrigerant and a water/glycol loop to provide highly efficient, environmentally friendly and safe refrigeration to this iconic biscuit manufacturer.
We also dive into the cooling needs of data centres, forecast the most important trends for small-medium HVAC&R businesses in 2026, and look at an exhibitor’s experience of AIRAH Industry Nights. Our skills workshop focuses on cooling towers, and Steve Smith is back with everyone’s favourite page: the lighter side.
You can check out this issue online via our new flipbook feature or pick up a print copy from your nearest participating wholesaler.
