With applications for professional registration in the ACT set to open on March 6, 2024, the ACT government is running an information session about the incoming scheme.
Under the Professional Engineers Act 2023, engineers providing engineering services in the ACT will need to be registered to confirm they have the necessary qualifications and experience. The scheme will apply to mechanical, civil, structural, electrical and fire safety engineers.
Although the scheme opens in little over a week, the government notes that it is not mandatory to be registered on March 6, 2024 to continue to provide professional engineering services in the ACT. To help with the implementation of the scheme, the Environment Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate (ESPDD) will be hosting an online information session on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 12.30–1.30pm (ESDT).
Participants will receive an access link to the information session no later than 24 hours prior to the commencement of the session.
The session will include an overview of the scheme, as well as information on who needs to be registered, how to register, assessment entities, and the timetable for registration. There will also be time for a Q&A.
“The session is open for anyone interested in the Professional Engineers Registration Scheme,” says the ESPDD. “Distribution beyond the identified stakeholder lists is permitted and encouraged. It will be online and there will be an opportunity for attendees to submit written questions.”
The EPSDD will distribute a copy of the material provided to all participants and key professional bodies following the session.
