Recognising the competence of fire safety practitioners

Fire Protection Association Australia is holding seminars about the Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme in March and April in New South Wales.

Changes to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000 in 2017 mean that anyone designing a fire system, or conducting an annual fire safety assessment must be a competent fire safety practitioner.

There is currently no formally recognised method available to demonstrate competence, and the Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS) is a useful way to ensure practitioners are appropriately skilled to carry out their work.

The FPAA is running the seminars about the scheme from late March until early April. The seminars will discuss the scheme and its implications for effective fire safety. The information presented is important for commercial and residential building owners and managers, facilities managers, allied professionals (builders, HVAC, architects), and others who work in the built environment.

Presenters include FPA Australia president Bill Lea and NSW state manager Paul Waterhouse.
