Net zero summit to focus on construction

The Net Zero Construction Summit will explore the policies, strategies, materials and technologies necessary to decarbonise construction.

The Net Zero Construction Summit, to be held in Sydney on March 26, will see industry leaders come together to discuss the policies, strategies, materials and technologies necessary to decarbonise the construction of buildings and infrastructure.

“While most seem to recognise the imperative of taking decisive climate action, not all construction industry leaders are currently pursuing an aggressive enough strategy to deliver net-zero carbon emissions – let alone trying to achieve zero carbon footprint for their projects and business operations by 2050,” say the organisers.

“Companies from across the construction value chain – from architects and engineering firms, to materials manufacturers, to suppliers and distributors, contractors and operators – should avoid seeing actions that lead to decarbonisation as yet another check-the-box compliance exercise. Rather, it’s a huge opportunity for companies to generate profitable growth and differentiate themselves in the market using decarbonisation strategies.”

Speakers at the summit include:

  • Anoulack Chanthivong – Minister for Fair Trading and Better Regulation, Building, Innovation, Technology, and Industry, NSW Government
  • Ehssan Veiszadeh – Roads Australia, CEO
  • Ian Porter – Strategic Advisor, Net Zero, Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts
  • Joe Karten – Head of Sustainability and Social Impact, Built
  • Alison Scotland – Executive Director, Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council
  • Hudson Worsley – Chair, MECLA.
