The Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) are presenting a Global Cooling Prize (GCP) workshop in Melbourne on March 27.
The GCP aims to provide cooling solutions that will enhance lives without contributing to runaway climate change. It is calling on leaders and innovators around the world to solve the critical climate threat that comes from the growing demand for residential air conditioning.
The competition challenges participants to develop a residential cooling solution that will have at least five times lower climate impact than today’s standard room air conditioner units. Such technology could prevent up to 100 gigatonnes of CO2-e emissions by the year 2050 and put the world on a pathway to mitigate up to 0.5°C of global warming by the year 2100, while enhancing living standards for people in developing countries around the globe.
The workshop will provide more information about the GCP and its objectives. Attendees will also receive helpful tips to consider for their applications and submissions.
The facilitator for the workshops is Iain Campbell, Senior Fellow at RMI. Campbell is the principal initiator of the Global Cooling Prize and the chair of the prize’s technical review committee. During his visit to Australia he will also deliver a keynote address at AIRAH’s Refrigeration 2019 Conference, on March 25–26.
