Energy efficiency is traditionally assumed as a host of separate technologies to be added in order of increasing cost – the more energy saved, the greater the marginal cost of that saving. Yet as physicist Amory Lovins would counter, designing buildings, vehicles, and factories instead as whole systems could save several times more energy at much lower costs.

The extra energy savings gained from such “integrative design” often cost less than past or current savings, meaning the more you save, the less the savings cost.

For his upcoming Zoom webinar Integrative Design for Radical Energy Efficiency, the co-founder and chairman emeritus at Rocky Mountain Institute will be espousing these theories with practical evidence, showing how integrative design can radically increase energy-efficiency opportunities, decrease their cost, and expand their scope and benefits.  

Hosted by the Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity (A2EP), the free webinar will be held on Thursday, June 18 from 9am to 10.30am (AEST) | 7am to 8.30am (AWST) | 8.30am to 10am (ACST).

It will be presented in a briefing and discussion format; participants will be invited to share their relevant experience, concerns, questions, and suggestions.

Having served as energy advisor to major firms and governments in more than 65 countries for over 40 years, Lovins is an integrative designer of superefficient buildings, factories, and vehicles. He is also a prolific author of 31 books and 600 papers.

His many accolades and awards include those from: Blue Planet, Volvo, Zayed, Onassis, Nissan, Shingo, Mitchell Prizes, the MacArthur and Ashoka Fellowships, the Happold, Benjamin Franklin, Spencer Hutchens Medals, Heinz, Lindbergh, Right Livelihood (“alternative Nobel”), National Design, and World Technology awards. In addition, he has earned 12 doctorates.
