Beating the heat at MENA Climate Week 2022

The first ever Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Climate Week is being held in March to accelerate collaboration and integrate climate action into global pandemic recovery.

MENA Climate Week 2022 will provide a platform for governments, cities, private sector leaders, financial institutions and civil society to discuss opportunities to build forward from the pandemic by identifying opportunities to enhance climate action. The event will bring together key stakeholders to take the pulse of climate action in the region, explore climate challenges and opportunities and showcase ambitious solutions.

“The Middle East and North Africa region is already the hottest and driest on the planet,” says the Cool Coalition Secretariat, “but the current level of emissions and expected climate impacts are set to make some areas uninhabitable. Bold action is needed to keep people cool without warming the planet.

“In this session, cities, industry and country representatives will showcase best practices from the region and discuss what is needed to scale up implementation to increase resilience to extreme heat with sustainable solutions.”

The event will mark the regional launch of Beating the Heat: A Sustainable Cooling Handbook for Cities, and will feature new funding and program announcements of the GIZ/AFD led Programme for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (PEEB).

MENA Climate Week 2022 will be held from March 28 to 31 in Dubai, hosted by the government of the United Arab Emirates.
