Delivering Air Tightness seminar

The Green Building Council Australia (GBCA) is holding its “Delivering Air Tightness” seminar online, and has reduced usual ticket prices by 30 per cent.

The seminar will be held on Thursday, April 30, and offers a start-to-finish understanding of how to achieve air tight construction on building projects. The GCBA says it will show more efficient air tightness practices for existing and new buildings through thoughtful design, careful specification, and rigorous construction quality control.

The seminar is developed in collaboration with Sean Maxwell, Technical Manager at Pro Clima Australia, and President of the Air Infiltration and Ventilation Association of Australia (AIVAA).

The course will cover the following key topics:  

• How to effectively test buildings and interpret results
  • Air tightness test examples and what they show
  • Interpretation of air tightness testing results
• The importance of early design and specification
  • How the commissioning process is applied to achieve air tight construction
  • Fundamental approaches to designing for air tightness
  • Schematic and detailed design review process: the “pen test”
• Construction methods and materials
  • Case studies of projects showcasing a diversity of achievements and results
• Meeting the requirements of National Construction Code (NCC) Section JV4 verification by testing
• Using testing to demonstrate achievement of air tightness for Green Star credit.

The GBCA says it is currently consulting on the proposal for air tightness testing to be a new minimum requirement in the Green Star for New Buildings rating tool, due for release in July. The council says air tightness has already been added to the NCC as an option to demonstrate compliance.
