Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air-Conditioners Australia (MHIAA) has won accolades both at the 2020 Good Design Australia Awards and Canstar Blue’s 2020 Air Conditioner Reviews & Ratings.

The company’s FDTC Compact Ceiling Cassette won the prestigious Good Design award in the Product Design Hardware and Building category at the 2020 Good Design Australia Awards. The award was given in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

More than 55 jurors evaluated this year’s entries based on criteria such as “good design”, “design innovation” and “design impact”.

The new FDTC compact ceiling cassette air conditioner combines European design and Japanese engineering.

“Ultra slimline design retrofitting within shallow small office ceiling cavities creates wide commercial appeal among SMEs,” says the Awards Jury, commenting on the FDTC innovation.

“The best feature is the automatic shut-off where no activity is detected, saving energy and minimising running costs. Great product design with a less-is more design aesthetic that looks right and is unobtrusive. All-round good, solid design that deserves to be recognised in the Good Design Awards.”

The 2020 Good Design Awards attracted a record number of submissions, with 835 design projects being evaluated.

“MHIAA would like to thank Good Design Australia for this important accolade,” says MHIAA’s Managing Director, Yuji Ito.

“As a company our philosophy focuses on developing innovative products that are designed to improve the lives of those who use them across Australia and New Zealand, and we are proud to see our new FDTC Compact Ceiling Cassette recognised in this way.”

The annual Good Design Awards is Australia’s oldest international Awards for design and innovation, with a long history dating back to 1958. The Awards celebrate the best new products and services on the Australian market, excellence in architectural design, engineering, fashion, digital and communication design, design strategy, social impact design and young designers.

MHIAA wins Canstar Blue Award again

In a separate event, the company also picked up the 2020 Canstar Blue Most Satisfied Customer Award in the 2020 Air Conditioners category. This is the second year in a row that MHIAA has earned this award.

Canstar Blue’s annual air conditioner review rates AC brands on functionality and features, noise, ease of use, reliability, value for money and overall consumer satisfaction.

From a survey of over 1,000 participants, MHIAA was the only brand to receive a five-star rating for overall satisfaction, which led to it taking out the 2020 Award.

MHIAA was also the only brand of air conditioners to receive a five-star rating for five out of the six customer satisfaction ratings, which included functionality, reliability, quietness, ease of use and overall satisfaction.

This award follows the announcement of MHIAA being picked as CHOICE’s Best Brand both in 2018 and 2019 at the beginning of the year.

“As a customer-centric organisation, we are honoured to have received this Canstar Blue award for the second year in a row,” says Ito.

“At MHIAA, we pride ourselves on delivering on our promises of providing premium products to the market and giving consumers exactly what they need. We are extremely honoured to take out both Canstar and CHOICE awards for two years in a row.”

Canstar Blue is an Australian comparison website – spawned from the Canstar brand in 2010 – focused on consumer goods across more than 150 categories. The findings are based on independent, professional customer satisfaction research and ratings, as well as in-house expert research and ratings.
