The Australian Building Codes Board has released the second stage preview of the National Construction Code 2022.

Although a first-stage preview was released in May this year, it did not include the provisions around energy efficiency and condensation management. These new measures have now been agreed to by building ministers, and have been revealed in the second part of the preview.

Complementing this, the ABCB has released a whole-of-home energy factors standard, and NatHERS Heating and Cooling Load Limits Standards.

The preview and other related documents can be downloaded from the ABCB website.

The ABCB plans to release more resources throughout the year, including in-depth articles on key changes, videos and webinars, updated guides to the NCC, supporting tools and calculators.

NCC 2022 will be adopted by states and territories on May 1, 2023.

In line with this, the changeover date for new testing requirements for passive fire protection systems has been pushed back to May 1, 2023. Previously, as of September 1, 2022, these systems were to be tested to the latest version of AS 1530.4.

Building ministers have also agreed to transitional arrangements for the following specific requirements. The new energy efficiency and condensation mitigation requirements will start on October 1, 2023.

The transitional arrangements will allow practitioners to continue using the relevant provisions of NCC 2019 until the end of the relevant transition period.

More details are available at the ABCB website.
