End-to-end review for Standards Australia
Standards Australia has announced a comprehensive, independent review of its standards development process, describing it as an opportunity to modernise and strengthen how standards work.

The review will be undertaken within the scope and remit of Standards Development and Accreditation Committee (SDAC) and will focus on three key pillars:
- How to prioritise and assess the need for new or revised standards, including across emerging sectors
- The effectiveness and efficiency of the full development lifecycle
- The strength and integrity of Standards Australia’s governance, policies, and committee structures.
“We recognise the environment in which we operate is changing,” says Standards Australia CEO Rod Balding.
“Faster innovation cycles, increasing global alignment needs, and growing expectations from regulators and contributors are all driving the need for a system that is efficient, inclusive and responsive. As Australia’s national standards body, we are committed to ensuring that our processes and governance remain fit-for-purpose and continue to deliver high-quality, trusted standards.”
As part of the review, Standards Australia is seeking perspectives on what is working, where friction points lie, and opportunities for improvement or innovation (including in the areas of digital tools and artificial intelligence).
To support the engagement, Standards Australia has released a consultation paper and is accepting written responses until September 19, 2025.
There will also be face-to-face and remote workshops run around Australia:
- Perth, August 25, 2025, 2–4pm
- Canberra, August 28, 2025, 9–11am
- Brisbane, September 5, 2025, 10am–12pm
