The Victorian government is advising engineers who are currently registered through the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) that they will need to be assessed in order to practise after July 1, 2026.
When the professional registration scheme began in Victoria, building practitioners registered with the VBA before July 1, 2021 were automatically transferred to the Business Licensing Authority (BLA). They were deemed to be registered.
This registration is set to expire soon. Professional engineers who are operating under this deeming arrangement must provide the BLA with a successful assessment report before July 1, 2026 to continue to offer professional engineering services.
The assessment must be done by an approved assessment entity. AIRAH is an approved assessment entity in Victoria for engineers working in mechanical engineering – HVAC&R building services through its APER program.
The BLA is encouraging engineers to lodge applications for assessment as soon as possible.
