What is HVAC&R?

The Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) has produced a flyer to help promote the HVAC&R industry.

AIRAH Executive Manager – Government Relations and Technical Services, Phil Wilkinson, F.AIRAH, says the nature of the HVAC&R industry means that people don’t have to think about it.

“We do our best to be hidden and serve society in the best way we can,” he says.

The flyer explains what the HVAC&R industry is, and how HVAC&R affects daily life. It also aims to encourage people to explore careers in a relatively unknown yet hugely diverse industry.

Earlier this year, the Australian Industry Standards (AIS) conducted a survey with stakeholders in the electrotechnology sector to find out more about skills shortages the industry was facing.

76.9 per cent of respondents reported experiencing a skills shortage in the past 12 months. Refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics appeared at number three on the list.

It is an industry that needs more people  creative problem solvers that enjoy hands-on work.

Wilkinson hopes the new flyer will encourage people that have those qualities.

You can download the brochure here. AIRAH is encouraging everyone within the industry to forward the brochure to people and organisations that may find it useful.
