Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) could be eligible to receive up to $25,000 to purchase energy efficient equipment as part of a new round of the Energy Efficiency Grants (EEG) program.

The EEG program has been allocated $41 million to help SMEs improve energy efficiency, save on energy bills and lower emissions.

The grants are worth between $10,000 and $25,000 and can be used to upgrade to more efficient equipment, such as replacing air conditioners with high efficiency units or gas heating boilers with heat pumps.

This is the second release of grant funding. In the first round, 674 businesses used the grants for upgrades to pool covers, heat pumps, air conditioners, and more efficient hot water pumps and compressed air improvements.

Minister for Small Business, the Hon. Julie Collins, says the grants are an example of the government providing targeted support to small businesses.

“I encourage small businesses to read the Grant Opportunity Guidelines to check if they are eligible for this new support,” she says.

The $41.2 million will be allocated to states and territories in proportion to the national distribution of SMEs. Grants will be awarded on a first come, first served basis until each jurisdiction’s allocation is exhausted.

Applications for the grants will open in Victoria on Thursday, February 22, 2024. More information is available here.
