The Material and Embodied Carbon Leaders’ Alliance (MECLA) is promoting the uptake of low-carbon building materials through a new innovation competition.
“The built environment accounts for roughly 40 per cent of global emission,” says MECLA. “Using lower carbon and innovative materials in construction is a crucial part of the decarbonisation journey for the industry. Companies are emerging all over Australia with innovative material solutions that can help drive down the carbon embodied by construction projects.”
The aim of the MECLA Innovative Building Materials Challenge is to bring together stakeholders across the construction supply chain to learn about these new innovative materials and how they can be used. With a keen focus on small- and medium-sized enterprises, the challenge is an opportunity for companies to share their products with architects, designers, contractors, investors, builders, and more.
Company representatives will give five-minute pitches explaining how their product can help reduce the embodied carbon in construction projects. A panel of expert judges will score each presenter and decide on a winner.
Prizes include an exhibition stall at Sydney Build 2024 in the International Convention Centre on May 1–2, 2024 (valued at $10,000), and more to be announced. Companies interested in presenting their products can complete the expression of interest.
The event is open for attendees, and will run from 3–5.30pm on Thursday, August 17, in person and online.
Places are limited, however, the event will be streamed live to the wider MECLA community around Australia and the world.
