The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) is hosting an online class about the need for effective resilience and preparedness strategies on Tuesday, October 15.
The GBCA says the masterclass will explore the challenges presented by climate, operational and community changes and the opportunities to mitigate them.
Experts with first-hand experience will address the common pain points that arise when preparing for the future, and how practitioners can foster a culture that recognises the value of early resilience planning.
Some key issues the masterclass will address include:
- Understanding the critical need for stakeholder engagement at the planning stage and best practice for implementation
- How to assess and respond to flood and urban heat islands
- Navigating adaptation of existing assets and working within limitations
- Examining the fine scale projection opportunities for resilience through the NSW and Australian Regional Climate Modelling
- Exploring how to embed resilience and adaptation in design, planning and due diligence
- Climate resilience assessment for existing buildings – what are the operational considerations?
- Addressing where the opportunities exist to make more impactful decisions to prepare and respond to risks.
Speakers will include:
- Adam Davis – Technical Director – Sustainability & Resilience, AECOM
- Brett Ellis – Managing Director, Resilientco
- Emily Chung – Green Star Program Lead, GBCA
- Judith Bruinsma – Project Coordinator Western Sydney, Regional Organisation of Councils
