Mark VenderAIRAH (the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating) has released a draft revision of the highly regarded Application Manual AIRAH DA19 HVAC&R maintenance that is now available for industry/public review and comment.
If you have an interest in the maintenance and performance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems and equipment then you should obtain, review and comment on the draft document. The review period extends from August 27 to September 17, 2018.
The focus of the manual is to assist building services engineers, maintenance engineers and plant engineers in the development and review of routine, preventative and predictive maintenance programs for HVAC&R plant and systems.
It also provides building and system owners, managers and operators with a structured way for developing and implementing a maintenance plan for their HVAC&R assets. The document provides guidance on the preparation of maintenance contracts for HVAC&R and the procurement of maintenance services, including setting performance standards for both systems operation and maintenance delivery.
The draft manual provides a guide to the programming of the maintenance tasks required for the most commonly found HVAC&R plant items and systems. Detailed preventative maintenance schedules for these HVAC&R plant items are provided. These are now, in this draft revision, reformatted to highlight industry best practice, good practice and mandatory or compliance-based maintenance tasks and frequencies.
The draft now includes much more information on predictive maintenance strategies and how to incorporate predictive maintenance elements into a preventative maintenance plan. The revision also includes new material on; maintenance budgeting, critically assessing HVAC&R assets for risk, and the digitisation of maintenance management, delivery and practice.
Reducing energy use, conserving water, managing refrigerants and water treatment chemicals are all issues directly linked to and addressed by HVAC&R maintenance. This draft manual discusses HVAC&R maintenance in detail and outlines a range of optimisation procedures that can be applied across the range of building stock and systems, from large systems associated with commercial and industrial buildings, to smaller light commercial and residential systems and to systems associated commercial refrigeration or industrial processes.
The draft is available for comment in two parts, DA19 HVAC&R Maintenance and DA19 Appendix A HVAC&R maintenance schedules. AIRAH invites comments from all stakeholders and anyone interested in HVAC&R systems and equipment. More information is available here.
