Last chance to comment on ABS occupation classifications

The ABS is reviewing the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations, and the final round of consultation has begun.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is reviewing the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO), and the fourth and final round of consultation has begun.

ANZSCO provides a framework for storing, organising and reporting occupation-related information. The classifications are important because they feed into policy on educational pathways, skilled migration programs and workforce strategies.

The ABS has released a draft version of the classification and is seeking feedback on:

  • How people intend to use the classification and data consumption tools
  • The proposed changes, draft structure and the implementation of the classification.

“We are particularly interested in understanding the positive and negative impacts of the proposed structural changes in the draft classification,” says the ABS, “and how they might impact your business or industry.”

Before this round of consultation opened, stakeholders in the HVAC&R industry raised concerns with the ABS about the draft classifications, some of which have been addressed in this version.

The consultation period closes on September 6, 2024.
