It’s less than a week until the AIRAH Awards gala dinner on November 15, where the industry will celebrate its best projects, products and people.
In the last of a series of preview stories, HVAC&R News looks at the finalists in the Future Leader category.
This award, sponsored by A.G. Coombs, recognises emerging leaders in any facet of the HVAC&R industry and may include engineers, designers and drafters, project managers and supervisors, trades people, commissioning and maintenance technicians, technical sales professionals, or other industry participants.
Past winners include Peta Blight, M.AIRAH (pictured); Carlos Flores, M.AIRAH; and Chris King, M.AIRAH.

Massimo Fiorentini
Massimo is the leader of the Control Systems and Energy Management Research Group, within the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre at the University of Wollongong. He is also helping develop codes and regulations by actively participating in the work of the Australian Standards EL-054 committee and is part of the working groups of the International Energy Agency tasks.
Jason Harrison
As Airmaster’s NSW state manager, Jason oversees all operations including offices in Sydney and Newcastle. He has driven and completed various award-winning projects such as the final commissioning of Darling Quarter, a 5-star NABERS Lendlease project, and the 8 Chifley Square $1.4m BMS installation. He was named Young Achiever at the ARBS 2018 Industry Awards.
Lina Le
Lina was appointed as the general manager of BUENO after leading some of the company’s most successful projects and providing outstanding strategic input to the direction of the business. After a major restructure, Lina built BUENO’s own corporate services team and led the implementation of standalone HR, workflow-management, accounting and CRM systems – all while strengthening the company culture.
Firas Shawash
Firas is a chartered professional engineer and a national registered engineer (NER) in the field of fire safety and mechanical engineering. As a senior fire engineer for i-Fire Engineers in Sydney, he provides cost-effective performance building solutions, in most cases involving smoke exhaust systems, stair pressurisation systems and zone control using HVAC systems.
Chris Stamatis
Chris has been the director of CopperTree Analytics Australia since it was founded in August 2015 and has shown outstanding commitment to the betterment of the HVAC industry. He has worked across multiple HVAC disciplines, helping him understand the inner workings of systems. His leadership is reflected in the fast growth of CopperTree Analytics and the analytics industry.
Mark Vigors
Mark is an outstanding mechanical engineer who shows a keen interest in mentoring the younger members of his Ellis Air Conditioning team and recently completed a Certificate IV in leadership and management. As lead mechanical engineer on the Brisbane Quarter project, Mark showed true leadership in dealing with all parties and resolving numerous design, interface and coordination issues.
