Virtual seminars on a net-zero future

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) will be holding a series of virtual seminars on net-zero building practices and tackling future policy changes in Australia and New Zealand. 

Titled 2020 Vision for a 2030 Reality, the program will explore and answer pertinent questions facing building services engineers, in view of the 2030 deadline set by much of the built environment community to eliminate operational emissions. It will discuss their role and how the profession can utilise available resources and strategies to achieve the target.

Bringing together experts from both countries, CIBSE says the online program will share exemplar case studies of regenerative and net-zero building practices. The seminars will also highlight future policy changes in Australia and New Zealand that building owners and services engineers need to minimise risks to assets, both existing and new.

Aimed at property owners, operators and building services consultants, the seminars will address the following topics and questions:

• What are the changes in the industry and how do they apply to buildings and their design?
• What does the future of refrigerants look like under the Kigali Amendment and Paris Agreement?
• The changes to legislation that will impact industry and corporate responsibility on climate change driven by legislative changes.
• Building resilience: What does this mean and what do we need to know?
• Financial applications – insurance and investors and what this means for building designers    
• Review of how Australia and New Zealand account for carbon in the building industry – operational and embodied sources. What are the shortfalls?
• The likely future focus of codes. Primary and extended targets for services engineers.
• Case studies of net zero being achieved. How the systems were designed to achieve this in new and existing buildings with net zero water/energy/carbon.
• What lessons can we learn from overseas examples?

The half-day, live-streaming event will be held on September 9 from: 11am–5pm (AEST) | 9am–3pm (AWST) | 8am–4.30pm (ACST).
