HVAC&R Emerging Trends Symposium

Perth is preparing for an HVAC&R extravaganza on June 13 with the Emerging Trends Symposium and AIRAH Industry Night.

AIRAH’s annual Industry Night – dubbed by some as the ARBS of the west – has always been well-attended. But in recent years exhibitors and attendees have requested it be expanded to include presentations and more spaces for expert dialogue. Hence, the HVAC&R Emerging Trends Symposium was born.

Slated for June 13 at HBF stadium, the event will feature presentations on the digital revolution, the changing nature of refrigerants, sustainability and more.

“We’re really looking forward to this inaugural Symposium,” says AIRAH’s WA committee president Paul Jackson, F.AIRAH. “We have a great program of speakers including some who will be travelling from interstate.

“The theme around emerging trends in the HVAC&R industry and the different perspectives should generate some interesting food for thought, and hopefully we’ll get some good interaction through the Q&A.

“This Symposium is a first for AIRAH WA and if we get the interest may become a permanent addition to the calendar.”

Jackson is one of the presenters, and will be discussing the final frontier: commissioning. He will also discuss the changes ahead as smart buildings, analytics and big data become more widespread. Norman Disney & Young cyber-security expert Raymond Frangie will also talk about the digital revolution, and reveal how vulnerable some of today’s IOT devices are.

Chris Bong, M.AIRAH, from Veolia, will discuss current technologies and refrigerants available in chillers; global and Australian trends; and how to prepare for the HFC phase-down. And Brett Hedge, M.AIRAH, from Kirby Australia will offer advice for those transitioning to lower-GWP refrigerants.

Sustainability is also on the agenda. Phill Raso from the City of Perth will explain Building Upgrade Finance (BUF) and the benefits of the scheme for building owners, tenants, the building services sector, local governments and the community. Meanwhile, Dr Subbu Sethuvenkatraman, Affil.AIRAH, will talk the audience through CSIRO and AIRAH’s roadmap for promoting the use of solar cooling and heating in Australia.

The Symposium will be immediately followed by the Perth Industry night. The Industry Night is free to attend, but you must register.
