Patrick Bellew of Atelier Ten studio is slated to present two lectures covering his 30-year career in and around sustainable buildings.
The lectures will take place in Sydney on November 1 and in Melbourne on November 2.
Titled “Patrick Bellew: From Anthills to Labyrinths” the lectures are described as an enlightening and prescient insight into Bellew’s work over the past three decades on projects such as Melbourne’s Federation Square.
Indeed, the “labyrinths” of the lecture title is a reference to the thermal labyrinth that sits under the atrium in the striking central Melbourne destination. There the thermal labyrinth supplies pre-cooled air to the atrium and other parts of Federation Square.
Following Bellew’s Melbourne presentation, the Atelier Ten founder will be joined by Kerstin Thompson (Kerstin Thompson Architects), Samantha Peart (Global Head of Sustainability – HASSELL) and Jefa Greenaway (Greenaway Architects; Chair of Indigenous Architecture and Design Victoria. This session will be moderated by Prof Donald Bates of the University of Melbourne – the architect behind Federation Square.
Recently bestowed with the 2023 Fazlur R. Khan Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), Bellew was recognised for his pioneering work integrating high-performance environmental technologies with architecture.
Part of the team that won the competition to deliver Federation Square in 1997, Bellew has also led pioneering global projects including Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay, The Jewel at Changi Airport, and Google campuses in London and California.
Among his many achievements and honours, Bellew was made a RIBA Honorary Fellow in 2001 and co-founded the UK Green Building Council in 2006.
