Bruce Precious, M.AIRAH, and the University of Wollongong have been recognised at the 2019 Green Globe Awards.
The annual Green Globe Awards are NSW’s premier environmental awards, recognising and celebrating collaboration, partnerships and projects that encourage others to achieve positive change and protect the environment.
This year, Precious was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating individuals who have demonstrated long-term commitment to leading environmental practice over a minimum 10-year period.
“Australia’s commercial property industry is leading the world in environmental best practice,” said the announcement. “Much of that achievement can be attributed to the influence of Bruce Precious. He helped establish NABERS, a green metric recognised as the world’s most successful built environment sustainability program.
“During his tenure at GPT, the property trust repeatedly topped the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and, as chair of Better Buildings Partnership, he steered Sydney’s biggest property players toward common net-zero emissions building standards.”
Another winner with strong connections to building services and HVAC&R was the University of Wollongong (UOW). Its Desert Rose house won the Built Environment Award, recognising excellence and innovation in sustainable design, construction, retrofitting and operation of existing or new buildings, precincts and tenancies.
UOW was also selected from among the winners for the Regional Sustainability Award.
The team adds these awards to what is becoming an impressive trophy cabinet. Earlier this month they won the AIRAH Award for Excellence in HVAC&R Research, and last year they scored silver in the Solar Decathlon Middle East – an international competition in which universities from around the world meet to design, build and operate a grid-connected, solar-powered house.
