The Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, April 28 about the challenges and commercial opportunities for sustainable cooling and the cold-chain in India. The webinar is called The cold-chain imperative – Food saved is as important as food produced, and will explore how the UK can support solutions in this growth sector.
Almost half of India’s employment is directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture, and up to 40 per cent of crops are lost in transit between farms and markets.
The Indian government has identified agri-logistics and cold-chain as vital components in its farm income strategy.
The Indian State governments plan to deploy more than 20,000 integrated pack houses for end-to-end post-harvest management, cold stores and integrated cold-chains using energy efficient and sustainable technologies.
Exploring how to participate in these initiatives, a British team is undertaking a design and feasibility study with local bodies for a localisable and integrated model of an end-to-end Post-Harvest Management (PHM), cooling and cold-chain logistics hub.
The webinar aims to provide IOR members an opportunity to develop a shared understanding of the current challenges and commercial opportunities of sustainable cooling and cold-chain in India. The IOR hopes to identify the key requirements needed, and explore how the UK can find solutions in this major growth sector.
