With less than a month to go before the 2020 AIRAH Awards, HVAC&R News continues its weekly profiles of the finalists.
The awards ceremony will be held as a virtual event on Tuesday, November 10, as part of AIRAH’s Outlook 2020 International HVAC&R Conference. The conference will be a full-day virtual event featuring three keynote speakers, three panel sessions, five streams, a networking café, and more than 30 speakers.
Today’s category is named after a towering figure in AIRAH’s history – William Roy Ahern, F.AIRAH.
Regarded as an engineer’s engineer, Ahern was respected for the breadth of his technical knowhow, exactitude, and willingness to share his accumulated wisdom. He was also a prolific writer of technical papers.
The WR Ahern award goes to the best technical paper by an AIRAH member published in Ecolibrium over the previous year. Ecolibrium is the official journal of AIRAH – and also the sponsor of this award.

Stefan Jensen, F.AIRAH, is the managing director of Scantec Refrigeration Technologies. A member of AIRAH’s national board of directors, he is widely recognised as a pioneer and an expert in energy-efficient systems and natural refrigerants.

James Spears, M.AIRAH, December Ecolibrium 2019
James Spears is a principal consultant at DeltaQ Pty Ltd. He has more than seven years’ experience in energy efficiency, building tuning and HVAC optimisation. He has helped deliver over 60 energy audits for various commercial, retail, and industrial sites.

Peter Phillips, F.AIRAH, July Ecolibrium 2019
Peter Phillips, F. AIRAH, is the Principal Consultant of PCES Consulting, a private practice HVAC engineering consultancy based in Australia.
The AIRAH Awards 2020 will be held as a free-admission virtual event on Tuesday November 10 at 4.30pm (NSW, Vic, ACT, Tas) | 4pm (SA) | 3.30pm (Qld) | 3pm (NT) | 1.30pm (WA).
