The Design Futures Council (DFC) is running an event series about the future of design, architecture, engineering and construction. Called Transcend, the seminars will run in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane during July.
The series has been created as part of a wider dialogue around what the built environment will look like in the future, and when the transformation will take place. Transcend explores the key issues and questions surrounding this.
DFC Managing Director Alexia Lidas says the goal behind the tour is to provide local insight into how the built environment is being disrupted globally.
“The rapid transformation taking place in the built environment is heavily driven by the utilisation of technology to increase productivity across the value chain. In addition, fabrication is a large part of the opportunity ahead,” she says.
“There is a risk not being aware of the changes afoot.”
The speakers at the series are Dr Forest Flager and Randy Deutsch.
Dr Flager currently leads systems engineering and building optimisation at Katerra, a Silicon Valley building company that specialises in prefabrication and cross-laminated timber construction. In his role, Dr Flager is interested in creating more affordable and sustainable buildings by reimagining how these products are designed and delivered.
Randy Deutsch, author of Superusers, will speak about the impact of emerging technology trends on professional services in the built environment. He will explore topics such as generative design, automation, AI, and machine learning.
