Data Driven Smart Buildings Symposium calls for speakers

The Data-Driven Smart Buildings Symposium 2023 is calling for expressions of interest to present on topics relating to data-driven smart buildings, with a focus on building operation.

Slated to take place Wednesday, May 24 at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, the Symposium will be hosted in collaboration with the International Energy Agency’s Annex 81 IEA EBC Annex 81|Data-Driven Smart Buildings, the University of NSW, and AIRAH.

“This Data-Driven Smart Buildings Symposium aims to provide a venue for national and international researchers – and practitioners in the field – to share their experience and learnings of data-driven management of buildings,” say the Symposium organisers.

“The recent revolution in digital technology and cyber-physical systems, has the potential to reduce costs and overcome barriers to energy efficiency in the operation of mechanical and electrical systems in buildings. A level of digitalisation is also fundamental to the use of buildings as distributed energy resources (DERs) in electricity grids.”

Topics for presentations may include (but are not limited to):

• Fault detection and diagnosis
• Data-driven building optimisation and/or electricity grid optimisation
• Data-driven measurement and verification
• Digital infrastructure and software tools for hosting data-driven analytics
• Data management and data governance
• Smart building applications and value proposition
• Data collection and data sets.

Presentations can include aspects relating to any of (i) algorithm development and testing; (ii) solution deployment and case studies; (iii) planning and policy measures for accelerating adoption; (iv) occupant and/or stakeholder surveys; and (iv) techno-economic feasibility and business models. 

“Although the emphasis of the symposium is on energy performance in buildings, additional exploration of use-cases that provide co-benefits would be well received,” organisers say.

Interested presenters should submit their expression of interest to present (EoIP) to the chair of the symposium technical organising committee at [email protected] by March 6. The EoIP should include an abstract of the proposed presentation using the form provided. 

The Data-Driven Smart Buildings Symposium is free to attend, but registration is essential.
