After a four-year hiatus, the global HVAC&R industry gathered for Chillventa 2022, held in Germany on October 11–13.
Organisers welcomed 844 exhibitors from 43 countries, and more than 30,000 trade visitors attended to discuss products, technology, and trending themes.
The three-day event was held at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg, and key topics included sustainability, energy performance of refrigeration systems, circular economy, indoor air quality, indirect cooling and IT security.
Petra Wolf, Member of the Executive Board of exhibition company NürnbergMesse, says organisers were pleased with more than just the numbers.
“Above all, it was the excellent atmosphere in the exhibition halls,” says Wolf. “So many different people from all kinds of countries, and yet they all had one thing in common, wherever you looked: the enthusiasm on the faces of exhibitors and visitors alike.
“As an industry with vast potential for the future, there were many important things to discuss. Chillventa is, and will continue to be, the trend barometer and the most important event worldwide for the refrigeration sector, including the AC and ventilation and heat pump segments.”
Most of the exhibitors came from Germany, Italy, Turkey, Spain, France and Belgium. According to organisers, 56 per cent of the 30,773 visitors were international, and more than 96 per cent plan to participate again in the next Chillventa.
“This super commitment is the greatest compliment for us,” says Elke Harreiss, Executive Director Chillventa, NürnbergMesse. “From manufacturers to plant operators, dealers, designers, architects and tradespeople, everyone was there once again.”
The accompanying presentation program, Chillventa Congress, was held on the eve of the exhibition, with 307 participants both onsite and online via live stream.

“More than 200 presentations – even more than in 2018 – were laid on over four days for participants in the Chillventa Congress and the forums, providing perfectly tailored industry knowledge and the latest information,” says Dr Rainer Jakobs, Technical Consultant and Technical Program Coordinator for Chillventa.
“The focus was on subjects such as sustainability, the refrigerant transition challenge, and large-scale heat pumps and high-temperature heat pumps, and then there were the new insights into air conditioning for data centres.”
The event also hosted two competitions in the form of the Federal Skills Competition, awarding the best young refrigeration plant manufacturers, and the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems category of the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition, the world championship for the skilled professions.
Chillventa 2024 is planned to take place at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from October 8–10, 2024, with the Chillventa Congress to be held on October 7.
