2025 AIRAH National Awards: A.G. Coombs wins Excellence in HVAC – Best Retrofit Project

To align with the direction of the Australian commercial building market, the iconic Brisbane property required the decommissioning of its existing gas-fired cogeneration plant. A.G. Coombs Group was engaged to provide the technical design, installation and maintenance expertise necessary to deliver this major energy systems transition.

The project presented significant challenges due to the scale of the building and its continued occupation throughout the works. Careful planning and staged delivery enabled the retrofit to be completed with minimal disruption to tenants and ongoing operations.

By replacing the ageing cogeneration system and modernising the building’s mechanical and electrical assets, the project achieved a substantial reduction in carbon emissions and improved overall energy efficiency. The upgrade also enhanced electrical safety for operations and maintenance, ensuring the building is better positioned for long-term performance and sustainability.
