Ziehl-Abegg releases new generation fan unit
The company says its new ZAplus fan unit has enhanced bionic features that reduce noise and energy consumption.

Ziehl-Abegg says the serrated trailing edge of the ZAplus fan blade – modelled after the silent flight of owls – has been refined, with a gently wavy leading edge that keeps airflow attached to the blade longer, further reducing noise.
Ziehl-Abegg says the fan reduces noise levels by up to four dB(A); for comparison, six dB(A) represents a doubling of perceived sound. The guide vane ring has also increased from 11 to 18 struts, which the company says provides more precise airflow. The intermediate ring now features a waved trailing edge, also inspired by nature.
“Noise emissions and energy consumption are significantly lower,” says Ziehl-Abegg CEO Joachim Ley. “In many cases, there’s no need for additional sound insulation, and noise limits can be easily met.”
Despite retaining the standard outer diameter of 1,070mm, the internal diameter has grown from 910 to 960 mm, which the company says improves efficiency.
In a major change from previous models, the rotor is now made of aluminium, while the blades are produced using high-strength plastic. Ziehl-Abegg’s initial customer testing shows that this results in a 9% energy saving.
