NCC 2022

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has announced the 2022 version of the National Construction Code (NCC) will be released as a digital product.

Historically a print-only publication, the digital release is being planned to improve the usability of the code.

The ABCB is making the changes after consulting with industry groups, and the first adjustments will be to the structure and formatting. One of the main goals is to improve readability – not only for people, but also for computers searching for information within the code.

The intent is to make the code accessible in multiple formats, rather than just in print.

According to the ABCB, because the NCC has evolved over many years – with volumes drafted in different ways for different purposes – its current structure won’t allow this.

The ABCB aims to create a new version that is a “well-organised, logical and easily digestible code”. A draft will be released next year, and the changes will be reflected in this.
