A demonstrator project in Belgium has been set up to show how cryogenic energy storage could work at refrigerated warehouses. Three years in the making, the project was recently installed at Frigologix in the city of Lomell, and a free international webinar will be held on March 17 to share findings and results.

The work is being supported by CryoHub – an EU-funded project to develop and investigate the potential of large scale cryogenic energy storage at refrigerated warehouses and food factories. Designers from Cryohub are working with installers and site owners to monitor operations and collect data for presentation at the webinar.

Discussion at the webinar will explore the potential for use of renewable energies, how supply can be matched to demand for refrigerated warehousing in the EU, the development of control strategies and components such as heat exchangers. Also discussed will be the advanced modelling of the design and operational results.  

As part of the webinar, a panel of experts will offer specific recommendations for policy-makers and business purchasing, as well as how this project’s findings could support environmental and energy policies in the future. 

Frigologix respresentatives will discuss how support for innovative technologies such as cryogenic energy fits into their business strategy.  Construction of the demonstrator unit will also be discussed.
