A team from the University of Wollongong (UOW) is conducting research to understand more about the career journeys of HVAC contractors, including their education and training, workplace experiences and perceptions of the future of the sector.

Specifically, the researchers are interested in talking to contractors who work in the mid-tier commercial building sector. They are hoping to hear from a range of career experiences, including different qualification types, time spent in sector and workplace locations in Australia.

The work builds on the information collected in the Better Ways to Work survey in 2020.

UOW and AIRAH will host two focus groups via Zoom:

  • Evening session (5.30-6.30pm AEDT) on Tuesday, November 30
  • Evening session (5.30-6.30pm AEDT) on Thursday, December 2.

The focus groups will run for 45-60 minutes. Participants will receive a $30 voucher from one of the following retailers: Coles/Myer, JB Hi-Fi or Bunnings.

Those interested in being involved in the research can email Elyse Stanes [email protected]  with their preferred focus group time. Those who are unable to attend a focus group, but would like to speak with the team, can get in touch via the above email to arrange a more suitable time.
