Future of HVAC Conference

In recent years, AIRAH’s Future of HVAC Conference has established itself as the leading event for identifying and exploring the emerging trends in the HVAC&R industry. This year the event will take place on September 12–13 at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium.

Forty guest speakers have been announced, presenting topics ranging from carbon-neutral buildings and flammable refrigerants to data analytics in HVAC.

One of the highlights will be the presentation from AECOM’s Jack Wardale and Sian Willmott. The duo will explore carbon-neutral buildings and a decarbonised grid, and what the next steps for HVAC will be.

“The decarbonisation of the electricity grid is critical if Australia is to meet its 2016 pledge to the Paris Agreement,” says Wardale.

“As the grid decarbonises over the next 20 years, total emissions associated with the use of grid electricity are expected to decrease to a point lower than that of natural gas.”

“We will discuss the likely impacts of this shift in energy source on HVAC systems,” says Willmott, “focusing on options such as reduced heating loads, electric-only boilers and reverse-cycle chillers and heat pumps for hot water.”
